In the area of activities carried out by the providers of research funding in order to promote gender equality, TA CR started cooperating at the international level in 2015 by joining the GENDER-NET ERA-NET consortium as an observer. In the successor project GENDER-NET Plus, TA CR has become a full-fledged partner. Support from Horizon 2020 was received also by the GEECCO project, in which TA CR leads a work package dedicated to the role of providers in promoting gender equality in research in technical fields (STEM).
GEECCO
The project is focused on the promotion of gender equality in research and innovation in the so-called STEM fields (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) and on the integration of the gender dimension into the content of knowledge and innovation. It responds to the significantly unbalanced representation of women in the given fields, especially in decision-making positions. Not only the fact of inequality and the related waste of talent of the female part of the population is assessed as problematic – the low representation of women in the STEM fields also has negative effects on the developed knowledge or products, which do not always sufficiently take into account women’s perspectives and needs.
The research consortium includes both research organizations and providers of funding, including TA CR. The specific goals of the project are structural changes in research organizations – the drawing up and implementation of gender equality plans aimed, for example, at increasing the share of women, their career development and minimizing the impact of motherhood on their career paths. In addition to these objectives, the research organizations will seek to increase the gender relevance of scientific knowledge and products of research, development or innovation by integrating the gender dimension into their content and into the content of teaching. In the case of funding providers, project activities focus on a more balanced representation of women and men in research and innovation and on the integration of the gender dimension into their content through the adjustment of programmes, evaluation processes and conditions for the granting of funding.

GENDER-NET Plus
The objective of the GENDER-NET Plus ERA-NET Cofund is to support projects taking into account the gender dimension through a joint international call launched by the providers who are part of the project consortium. In addition, the consortium is engaged in other activities to support gender mainstreaming in research and institutional changes ensuring gender equality.
Through its participation in this project, TA CR supports international cooperation in research and development dealing with the topic of gender equality, which allows Czech researchers to share knowledge across Europe and selected other countries, gain experience and international contacts, which can then be used for further cooperation or in the preparation of joint projects for other programmes.
